Link importer

Bring your links to Flyn from one export

Drop the CSV from Bitly, Rebrandly, Dub, Short.io or any other tool. Flyn finds the columns and shows what happens to every link before anything is created.

Drop your export file here

CSV, TSV or TXT from Bitly, Rebrandly, Dub, Short.io or any other tool.

Read in your browser. Nothing is uploaded from this page.

  • Links on your own branded domain keep working once the same back-halves are imported onto it, the domain is verified in Flyn and its DNS points to Flyn.
  • Links on bit.ly, rebrand.ly and other shared domains stay with that service. Each gets a new Flyn link, and your report maps old to new.
  • Click history does not transfer. Flyn counts clicks from the moment each link goes live.
  • The preview is free and needs no account. Importing needs Pro, Lifetime or Team.

How it works

Three steps to switch

From your old shortener's export to live Flyn links.

  1. Step 1

    Drop your export

Upload the CSV, TSV or TXT file from your current shortener, or paste a list of links. The preview on this page runs in your browser, so nothing is uploaded from it.

  2. Step 2

    Check the preview

Flyn picks the columns (you can change them), flags rows that need attention, and shows which links keep working on your domain and which get a new Flyn link.

  3. Step 3

    Import and switch over

Import with Pro, Lifetime or Team, and download a report that maps every old link to its new one. Then point your branded domain's DNS to Flyn and click Verify under Settings, Domains.

What transfers

What moves, and what does not

Exactly what the importer does with each part of your old account.

  • Destination URLsYes

Each valid, safe destination becomes a Flyn link, except duplicates and rows you choose to skip. On a new account, a daily limit can hold some back for later.

  • Back-halvesYes

Kept on your own domain where Flyn allows them. On Flyn's shared domain they are kept when free; otherwise you choose to skip the row or use a random back-half.

  • Titles and tagsYes

When your export has them. Some exports, such as Dub's, have no title column.

  • Your branded domainAfter DNS

Its old links keep working once they are imported onto it, the domain is verified in Flyn and its DNS points to Flyn. Add the domain before you import.

  • Links on bit.ly, rebrand.ly and other shared domainsNo

They stay with that service. Each gets a new Flyn link, and the report maps old to new.

  • Original creation datesPartly

Kept in each link's note when your export has them, not as the Flyn creation date.

  • Click historyNo

Export any reports you want to keep before you cancel the old service.

  • QR codesPartly

Codes for links on your own domain keep working once those links are imported onto it, the domain is verified in Flyn and its DNS points to Flyn. Codes printed with a shared domain keep pointing to the old service.

  • Pixels and integrationsNo

Set them up again in Flyn.

Pointing your domain to Flyn

Add the domain under Settings, Domains before you import, so rows on it are matched. Pro, Lifetime and Team include 3 custom domains. Flyn then shows these records:

Subdomain, such as go.yourbrand.com
CNAMEcname.flyn.to
Root domain, such as yourbrand.com
A76.76.21.21
Ownership check, at _flyn.yourbrand.com
TXTThe value Flyn shows you

Add them at your DNS provider, then click Verify in Flyn. Until the DNS change, your old service keeps answering for the domain.

FAQ

Migration questions

Will my existing short links keep working?
Only the ones on your own branded domain. Add that domain to Flyn, import your links (rows on that domain are matched to it and keep the same back-halves where Flyn allows them), then point the domain's DNS to Flyn and click Verify under Settings, Domains. Links on a shared domain such as bit.ly, rebrand.ly or dub.sh belong to that service and cannot move: each gets a new Flyn link, and your import report maps every old link to its new one.
What happens to my bit.ly, rebrand.ly or dub.sh links?
They stay with that service and keep working only as long as it keeps them active. Flyn creates a new short link for each destination and gives you a report that maps old links to new ones, so you can update them wherever you shared them. QR codes printed with those links keep pointing to the old service.
Which exports can I upload?
CSV, TSV or TXT files, or a pasted list of links. Flyn knows the export columns of Dub, BL.INK, Pretty Links and YOURLS, and of Rebrandly's API export. For other exports, such as Bitly, Short.io or Cuttly, it matches the columns by their names and contents. Any CSV works as long as it has a column of destination URLs, and you can change which column is which before importing. Save Excel files as CSV first.
Is my file uploaded when I drop it on this page?
No. The file is read in your browser to build the preview. When you continue, it is usually kept in this browser so the importer can open it after you sign in (a very large file may have to be uploaded again there). The importer then checks your planned links against existing ones, and creates links only when you press Import. If the importer opens without your file, upload it again there.
Do I need a paid plan?
Uploading, column mapping and the preview are free. Importing the links needs Pro ($9 a month billed yearly, or $12 monthly), Lifetime or Team. A free account can still create up to 25 links a month.
Does click history transfer?
No. Clicks recorded by your old service stay there, so export any reports you want to keep before you cancel it. Flyn counts clicks from the moment each link goes live on Flyn.
What if a back-half is already taken?
On your own domain, a back-half can be taken only by a link already in your account or team. On Flyn's shared short domain, other accounts' links can take it too. Either way you choose to skip those rows or give them a random back-half, and existing links are never overwritten.
How do I keep links on my own domain working?
Add the domain under Settings, Domains before you import (Pro, Lifetime and Team include 3 custom domains), so the importer can match rows on that domain. Then point the domain to Flyn: a CNAME record to cname.flyn.to for a subdomain such as go.yourbrand.com, or an A record to 76.76.21.21 for a root domain, plus the TXT record at _flyn.yourbrand.com that Flyn shows you to prove ownership, then click Verify. Until the DNS change, your old service keeps answering for the domain.
How many links can I import?
Large files work: the importer sends links in batches and shows its progress. Very new accounts may have a daily safety limit on how many links they can create. If an import reaches it, the importer stops cleanly and lets you download the rows that were not imported, so you can import that file once the 24 hours are up.
Can I migrate without a custom domain?
Yes. Links without a matching custom domain are created on Flyn's short domain, flyn.co. You can add a custom domain for new links at any time.
