Migrate from Cutt.ly to Flyn
Upgrade from Cutt.ly to Flyn for unlimited links, custom domains, A/B testing, and real-time analytics
Last updated: April 2026
Pre-Migration Checklist
Complete these steps before starting the migration to ensure a smooth transition.
- 1Export all links from Cutt.ly (CSV or manual)
- 2Document custom domain DNS settings if applicable
- 3List any API integrations using Cutt.ly
- 4Verify your Flyn plan supports your link volume
- 5Choose a migration window during low traffic
Step 1: Export from Cutt.ly
First, export your existing links from Cutt.ly so you can import them into Flyn.
Log in to Cutt.ly
Go to cutt.ly and sign in to your account.
Open your link dashboard
Navigate to the links management section where all your shortened URLs are listed.
Export links
Use the export feature to download your links as CSV. On the free plan, you may need to manually copy links or use the API.
Verify your export
Check that the CSV includes destination URLs and short codes. Add slugs and tags manually if they were not included.
Step 2: Import into Flyn
Upload your exported links into Flyn. The import wizard auto-maps columns and preserves your slugs.
Create a Flyn account
Sign up at flyn.to/signup, free, no credit card required.
Open Dashboard > Import
Access the Flyn import tool.
Upload the Cutt.ly CSV
Upload your CSV and map columns in the import wizard.
Confirm and import
Preview links and click "Import All" to create them in Flyn.
Step 3: Domain & DNS Migration
Point your custom domain to Flyn so existing short links keep working seamlessly.
Set up a custom domain
If you used Cutt.ly's branded domain feature, locate the DNS records in your DNS provider. Cuttly uses A records (not CNAME) for custom domains.
Replace with a CNAME to Flyn
Remove the A record pointing to Cuttly's IP address and add a CNAME record pointing to link.flyn.to instead.
Add domain in Flyn
In Settings > Domains > Add Domain, enter your branded domain and verify.
Confirm the switch
Wait 5-30 minutes for DNS propagation. Flyn shows verified status once active.
DNS Record Summary
| Field | Before | After |
|---|---|---|
| Type | A | CNAME |
| Host | go (or your subdomain) | go (no change) |
| Target | A → [Cuttly IP from dashboard] | link.flyn.to |
What Transfers
Here is what carries over from Cutt.ly to Flyn and what needs to be reconfigured.
| Item | Transfers | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Destination URLs | All URLs preserved | |

| Custom domains | Remove A record pointing to Cuttly IP and add CNAME to link.flyn.to | |

| UTM tracking | UTMs embedded in destination URLs are preserved |
Post-Migration Verification
After completing the migration, work through this checklist to verify everything is working.
- Test imported links for correct redirects
- Verify custom domain in Flyn if applicable
- Confirm Flyn analytics are tracking new clicks
- Update API integrations to use Flyn
- Share new branded links with your team
Troubleshooting
Common issues and how to resolve them.
Free plan has no bulk export
Cutt.ly's free plan limits export options. Use the Cutt.ly API (if available on your plan) or manually compile your important links into a CSV.
Short codes do not match after import
Cutt.ly may use auto-generated codes. During Flyn import, you can set custom slugs for each link or let Flyn auto-generate new ones.
Domain not verifying in Flyn
Cuttly uses A records, not CNAME. Make sure you have removed the old A record pointing to Cuttly's IP and added a CNAME record targeting exactly link.flyn.to. A CNAME and A record cannot coexist on the same hostname. Wait up to 30 minutes for full propagation.
