UTM parameters are how analytics tools know a click came from your newsletter and not your Instagram post. The problem is keeping them consistent: one typo in utm_source or one utm_medium spelled two ways and your campaign splits into fragments you can never reconcile. Flyn builds the tagging into the link editor itself. Open the tracking panel, fill in the fields, and the full tagged URL assembles live in front of you before you save. Then every click on that link flows into your analytics grouped by source, medium, and campaign, so the tags you set on the way out become the report you read on the way back. It is on the Free plan, it works on every link you create, and it pairs with the standalone UTM builder tool when you want to draft a URL outside the editor first.

How it works

Up and running in minutes

1

Open the tracking panel

Inside any link, open the UTM section of the editor. You get labeled fields for the five standard parameters: source, medium, campaign, term, and content. Fill in the ones your campaign needs and leave the rest blank.

2

Watch the URL build live

As you type, Flyn assembles the full tagged destination in a live preview: your base URL plus the exact query string it will carry. You see precisely what will be shared before you commit, so there are no surprises and no broken parameters.

3

Save and share the short link

Save the link and share the short version. The UTM tags travel with every click through to the destination, which means analytics on your site and in Flyn both receive clean, consistent campaign data.

4

Read clicks back by campaign

In your Flyn analytics, clicks group by source, medium, and campaign automatically. You can tell at a glance which channel and which campaign earned the traffic, without exporting anything or maintaining a naming sheet on the side.

Why it matters

What you get

Consistent tagging, every time

Structured fields replace free-typing a query string by hand. Fewer typos in utm_source, no utm_medium spelled two ways, and campaigns that stay whole instead of splintering across your reports.

Live preview before you share

The built URL renders as you type, so you confirm the exact tags and destination before saving. What you see in the preview is exactly what gets shared and tracked.

Attribution without a spreadsheet

Clicks come back grouped by source, medium, and campaign inside your analytics. You skip the parallel tracking sheet entirely and read attribution where the links already live.

Know what actually drove clicks

When two channels promote the same page, the tags tell them apart. See whether the email, the ad, or the social post moved the traffic, and put your effort where it pays off.

Free on every plan

UTM tagging in the editor is free on every plan, so no upgrade is required to tag your links. The campaign rollup that groups those clicks by source, medium, and campaign in analytics is part of Pro.

Pairs with the UTM builder tool

Prefer to draft a URL first? Flyn also ships a standalone UTM builder. Build the tagged link there, then shorten and manage it here with the same parameters carried through.

Frequently asked questions

How is this different from the standalone UTM builder tool?

The standalone builder at the UTM builder page is a calculator: you assemble a UTM-tagged URL and copy it out. This feature is UTM tagging built into every short link, plus the part the calculator cannot do, which is rolling those tags back up in your analytics. Here you tag inside the link editor and then see clicks grouped by source, medium, and campaign. Many people draft in the builder, then shorten and track here.

Which UTM parameters can I set?

All five standard ones: utm_source, utm_medium, utm_campaign, utm_term, and utm_content. Each has its own labeled field. Fill in the ones your campaign uses and leave the others empty. Source, medium, and campaign are the three you will most often want together.

Is UTM tracking really free?

Tagging is free everywhere: adding UTM parameters in the editor is included on the Free plan, and the free UTM builder tool works without an account. Free covers 25 links a month with total click counts. Campaign reporting, seeing clicks grouped and broken down by source, medium, campaign, geo, device, and referrer, is part of Pro's advanced analytics.

Will the UTM tags reach my own analytics too?

Yes. The tags are part of the destination URL, so every click carries them straight through to your landing page. Analytics platforms that read UTM parameters, such as Google Analytics 4, capture them the same way they would for any tagged link. Flyn also groups the same clicks by campaign on its own dashboard.

Can I edit the UTM parameters after I create a link?

Yes. Every Flyn short link is editable, so you can open the tracking panel later and change the source, medium, campaign, term, or content. The short link itself stays the same while the tagged destination updates, which is useful when you reuse one link across campaigns.

Do I still see the exact URL that gets shared?

Yes. The editor shows a live preview of the fully built URL as you fill in the fields, including the complete query string. You always know exactly what will be shared and tracked before you save, so nothing is hidden and no parameter is malformed.

Do UTM tags tell me which campaign produced a signup or a sale?

Not on their own. UTM tags label the visit for the analytics you run on your own site, so a sale shows up there grouped by source, medium, and campaign. Flyn's separate conversion tracking feature (Pro) works the other way round: it ties each signup or sale back to the individual short link that sent the visitor, so two links carrying the same utm_campaign still report their own conversions, conversion rate, and value. Both can run on one link, since your UTM parameters reach the destination untouched and the conversion id simply rides along beside them.
